Spring Fever

I love February because my daughter was born this month, but I do find it one of the most challenging months for me. I always tell myself, next February I’m going to go somewhere warm! Alas, I have a short-term memory. There are a lot of exciting things afoot in my poetic life. We had to post-pone the Mystery to Me reading to May 17th, so please mark your calendars and come out to this wonderful bookstore in a really cool neighborhood.

Other upcoming appearances:

  • April 4th at 7 p.m., Shayahra Majumder and I will be reading at Leopold’s Books Bar Caffé

  • April 17th from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., I will be doing a radio interview with Rex Owen with 103.5 The Sun (AM radio in the Sun Prairie/Madison area)

I have also been accepted to the writer’s residency at Renaissance House in Martha’s Vineyard for a week this June! I’ve never been to the island so I’m really looking forward to it. Book #3 is coming along, but I need to spend quality time reading, thinking and writing. And of course, walking on the beach!

I recently learned that one of my poems will be featured in the 2024 Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets calendar! It’s such an honor to be included with this talented group of local poets. I’ll let you know when they come out so you can purchase one.

Speaking of dates, there are a lot of days in March that celebrate writing. I’m going to try reading on video this month and share them on social media. Please let me know if there is a favorite poem or excerpt that you’d like me to read (even if it’s not my poetry). Let’s welcome the wonderful season of spring together!

This is a poem from my book The End of the Beginning. Ah...love and longing in springtime.

SPRING PARADOX

My favorite room in the house

when alone,

is just one of the places

I wish you were with me.

Let’s chat soon.

With affection,

Carrie VS
