Sharing New Poetry with Future Writers

It’s that time of year when I get to attend a Poetry Jam at one of my favorite schools in Madison – Elvehejm Elementary School. I met with 50 4th graders and two teachers. I introduced myself, talked about what inspired me and read some poems from my three books. I did get some questions and comments relating to the poems, which is always interesting to me. It was then their turn to read the poems that they had created.

For the first time in four years, they all read their poems out loud to the class! It can be very intimidating to read out loud, especially a poem. I enjoyed each and every one of their poems and they were very respectful to me and one another. Thanks so much to Deidra Yahn for having me every year. It’s a gift.

I’m busy preparing for my book launch on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at Ruby Rose Gallery in Cambridge! It’s always exciting to get a book out into the world! I hope that, if you are in the Madison area, you’re able to stop by and say hello. I’ll have some light refreshments, there will be a gift from the gallery and I’ll be reading some poems from my new book.
If you can’t stop by, please consider buying a book on my website. I’m happy to sign it and add an inscription if you’d like. The holidays are right around the corner and it can be a great gift for readers of all ages.

My next writing endeavor is going to be to see if I can write some short stories! I thought I would try my hand at a different genre. I’ve already started writing one and it’s more fun that I thought it would be. I’m excited to share my progress with you as I go on this journey.
Let’s chat soon.
With affection,
Carrie VS
