Be Kind to Yourself

Updated: Nov 10, 2021

One Friday night a couple of years ago, I called a tattoo artist I knew to finally get that tattoo! I went downtown to his shop and we had a chat about what I wanted and where (these are always great questions when it comes to tattoos!). I told him I wanted a blue heart on my arm so that I could see it and remind myself of two things: to love myself and that I’ll find true blue love again. We went through the process of putting an outline on my arm, but when he started to prep the needles, I lost my courage. We talked a bit more and when I left he said, "Be kind to yourself." I still don’t have a tattoo – can’t quite answer the pertinent questions – but I’ll always remember those words. Words matter, caring matters and I value every conversation I have with people who really understand those two things.

I hope to see you and talk to you when I come to a city near you to read some poems from my new book. We can talk about the stories and inspiration behind the poems. Until then, be kind to yourself.

Let’s chat soon.

With affection,

Carrie VS
