Keep Moving Forward - A Look at the Year Ahead

Invariably, people will ask me what my New Year’s resolutions or goals are. It seems to be a required conversation once the year begins. I thought I would share some of my goals with you. First, I want to say that my primary goal is to get up, make the bed, and start the day! I am also determined to finish Book #3 this year. It might seep into 2024 with final edits and printing, but I want to get it wrapped up in a year. In 2022, as you know, I was quite busy promoting The End of the Beginning, and while I enjoyed every moment and loved seeing everyone, I need to focus on putting words to paper. Instead of having so many events, I’m trying to more selective and attend events and festivals with fellow poets so I can immerse myself more in that community.

Shahayra and I will be reading poetry and selling books at the Art & Lit Laboratory in Madison on Sunday, January 29th at 2 p.m. and we will also be doing a reading at Mystery to Me Books in Madison on Thursday, February 23rd at 6 p.m. We’d love to see you and it's a nice way to support local artists, bookstores and businesses.

I’m trying to figure out where I’d like to travel to this year. I would like to go to at least one state and one foreign country. It’ll depend on poetry festivals and timing, so stay tuned! If you have any suggestions, let me know – I’d love to hear from you!

I’m still playing guitar and I have chosen a couple of songs I’d like to learn to play, one of them on my electric guitar called “My Hero” by Foo Fighters. My friend suggested I try it and it’s such a great song. I need to get used to my electric guitar because I signed up for Ladies Rock Camp in Madison March 31 - April 2. It’s a fantastic organization that has camps for girls and ladies that want to learn how to play instruments and sing in a band. No experience is needed, but I want to prep a little bit. On April 2nd, bands will be performing for the public. It’s going to be a rockin’ good time! (I just had to say that)

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this special day. See below for a quote from this inspiring man that I resonate with.

Let’s chat soon.

With affection,

Carrie VS
