When Art Imitates Life

Dearest reader,

I am fortunate in many ways. One way is that I have the best friends on the planet.

Hands down. Do not challenge me – you will lose! They have been there in the ups and

downs and never waiver. I don’t care what season of my life I met them, they have

stood by me.

This March, for my birthday, I asked my dear friend Kelly to paint a goddess painting of

me for me. I know, I know – I did what?! She’s a brilliant artist and I have many paintings by Kelly in my house. She has taught me so many things about life, about myself, through art. She’s a true teacher and healer. And a Libra, which helps me because I’m an Aries (for the astrology buffs that read this).

I wanted to reclaim parts of myself and I thought that having a painting depicting me as

a goddess and someone who had a quiet knowing, confidence, and peace about herself

surrounded by things I love, would help. And it has.

I give to you, “Sacred Lyric of the Hawk”. There are so many thoughtful details in this piece of art. My spirit animal is the Hawk. I love dahlia flowers and the blue and gold tones. She used magical sigil symbols to represent my three poetry books with more room to spare for future books. The butterfly is an ode to my daughter and her art, particularly on my second and third books. There is much to discover in this painting but I will leave some of it a mystery.

This is a gift beyond measure and I can’t thank Kelly enough for the hours she spent channeling this painting.

One thing that Kelly does for her community in Port Washington, Wisconsin is hold a regular session for women called the Red Thread Circle. She encourages

women to meet, connect and support each other through discussion and art.

I highly recommend you check out her website and maybe even commission her to

paint your very own goddess painting! redthreadwomenscircle.com/about

Thank you, Kelly.

Let’s chat soon.

With affection,

Carrie VS
