You already know how much I love the fall season. Leaves are changing, weather is cooling down and there are pumpkins everywhere! It's also a busy month for festivals and special events. I recently collaborated a book talk at Kismet Books in Verona with my friend and fellow poet Shahayra. Thank you again to everyone that attended and shout out to Kismet for the fun Halloween decor!
If you are in the Watertown, WI area, I hope you'll join me tomorrow, October 6 at 6 p.m. at the Watertown Public Library for a poetry reading, book signing and Q&A. This is my hometown library, so I'm extra excited to be giving a book talk here.
In the spirit of October, I've included a couple spooky poems for you to enjoy all month long. Let me know what you think.
Let's chat soon.
With affection,

GHOSTS?
I’ve seen lights flicker
in the middle of the night
that had no business being lit.
Old greeting cards on the ground
from those long, or freshly gone.
I made an appointment
to see a psychic
for a spiritual tune-up.
Burning sage might scare them away.
But what fun would that be?
ARACHNOPHOBIA
Untether,
and run,
before you become
my last meal.
FALL
I’ve been trapped under
many places and things
over time.
They’ve weighed on me
like anvils.
Even now, shards of memory
litter the floor
and distant voices tell me things
I honestly don’t want to hear.
Tonight at dusk
I ran from the house,
tearing past spirits on the porch,
to launch myself from the highest step
into a crisp heap of leaves.
It’s not so much the suffering
as it is the silence.
