Music, Travel & Third Book News

Updated: Sep 25, 2025

Hello dear reader!

We are experiencing a second summer in the Midwest right now. Soon we will be fully immersed in all things pumpkin, sweaters, and hot drinks!

Jenna and I took a trip to Colorado and had a great time at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheater seeing Brandi Carlile opener, Lucius. A few years ago I was there was for a Sarah McLachlan with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra concert and it was one of the best concerts. We went two out of the three nights Brandi was there and it was awesome both times.

The weather was great and we really enjoyed seeing Brandi, the band and Lucius. If you ever get a chance to go to Red Rocks, I highly recommend it. I also think you should plan ahead with timing and parking. In addition to Red Rocks, we got to hang out with cousins Rick and Martha, which is always a treat! Colorado has a special place in my heart.

Last weekend, I attended a Madison Girls Rock Camp fundraiser at the High Noon Saloon. It was a tribute to Lilith Fair with so many talented musicians. Madison really does have a stellar music scene and it was on full display at this event. Jenna rocked the drums in several bands. It’s always great to see her in action! Special thanks to Dana Perry for putting it all together. Jenna and Dana’s passion for music is inspiring.

And now, the news you’ve all been waiting for…my third book entitled Shadow Work will be coming out in October! I’m really proud of it. It’s currently in production at Gorham Printing. You’ll be able to purchase from the website, so stay tuned!

Here is some advanced praise to get you excited about it! Thank you to Simon, Lucas, Christine and Mike for your generous words.

"There are poems in this collection so powerful, so penetrating, that reading them will transport you to those lost or secret rooms of your own life—as great poems always do."

Simon Van Booy, best-selling author of Sipsworth

“Shadow Work is rhythmic narrative poetry that makes you want to go out and live. With easily conversant language, Schonhoff turns poignant reminiscence into present discovery. Whether the subject is nature, travel, or relationships—her characteristic awakenings transform the familiar into something new."

Lucas Hunt, winner of the John Steinbeck Award for Poetry

"Carrie Voigt Schonhoff's Shadow Work is a roulette wheel of longing, like simultaneously being haunted and hugged by a ghost of everything you've ever loved. A beaming light in the dark."

Christine Vartoughian, author of The Only Way Out Is Through the Window

“Carrie Voigt Schonhoff writes poetry for the rest of us. With an accessible and distinctly Midwestern voice — void of pretension and alive with sincerity — she unveils moments of deep nostalgia, middle-age melancholy, and organic joy. Even if you’ve never gone fly-fishing, or loved a horse, or danced with a ghost, or driven to Palo Alto in a convertible, after reading Carrie’s eloquent work, you’ll feel like you have.

Michael Popke, award-winning Wisconsin journalist and author

Let’s chat soon.

With affection,
